The Legal Conversation: Future Issues, Challenges and Solutions Facing Employers in the Workplace - Michael Zacks, Director and General Counsel, Office of the Employer Adviser

"Michael Zacks will provide an overview of the big WSIB issues facing employers in the coming 12 months such as the Arthurs Report, Bill 119, WSIAT decisions affecting SIEF entitlement, the impact of the KPMG audit on the Board's adjudication process, the coming WSIB operational policy review, and other significant issues that will directly impact your dealings with the WSIB.  This will be a high level overview giving you an important perspective on what is happening in workers' compensation."

WSIB's Financial Challenges and the Impact on Employers - Bruce Neville, Principal, Nexus Actuarial Consultants Ltd.

"One of the financial challenges facing the WSIB is to set premium rates for employers that are fair, credible and transparent.  The WSIB pricing system should set premium rates in a manner that promotes positive bahaviour, while maintaining collective liability and providing the financial security to injured workers that their benefits will be paid as promised. Nexus has reviewed the current system and found shortcomings in the classification of employers, rate grouping, premium rates and experience rating.  Bruce will talk about what needs to be done to improve the pricing system.

Business Continuity and Emergency Management: What You Need to Know - Ann Wyganowski, Vice President, HZX Business Continuity Planning

"From the "Occupy Movement" to severe weather, floods, disease outbreaks and fires, the size and shape of business disruption is an ever evolving challenge.  If you are not prepared, the impact of such a disruption to your business or organization and the people who support it could be catastrophic.  Do you understand your responsibilities and obligations as an employer to prepare?  This session will help you understand how you can best protect your employees and your organization through emergency procedures and business continuity plans."

MOL Inspections 2012: What's New, Your Rights, Be Prepared! - Jeremy Warning, Partner, Heenan Blaikie LLP

"The Occupational Health and Safety Act gives Ministry of Labour (MOL) inspectors very broad powers to inspect workplaces and issue orders directing action, change or a work stoppage.  Those powers are being used with increasing frequency against Ontario employers.  However, there are strategies available to employers to manage the impact of a MOL inspection and minimize the risks. In this session, a former MOL prosecutor will discuss steps that can be taken to ensure a successful response to an inspection by exploring issues such as the triggers for an inspection, the characteristics of MOL inspectors, responding to the difficult inspector or worker, and appealing against orders without repercussions.
