PRESENTATION HIGHLIGHTS:

Factors To Consider When Investigating Claims of Workplace Injuries:

Combining Practical World-Class Tips With a Real Life WSIB Case Study

In this presentation we will look at the various factors to be considered when conducting an investigation of a workplace injury claim.  We will highlight case law which will give insight into the legal system's view on conducting these types of investigations and examine a case study on an actual claim that was presented to the WSIB in which the subject was found guilty of fraud, fined and required to reimburse payments made to him over a 12 month period.

Workplace Investigations:

Legal Tips and Strategies For Effective Results

This seminar will focus on how to effectively conduct a workplace investigation.  We will address investigations in the context of human rights complaints, workplace harassment and violence complaints, and workplace injury claims.  The emphasis will be on effective tips for proactively implementing and managing your investigation process and strategies for dealing with the results.

Investigating WSIB/Disability Fraud:

What Every Employer Needs To Know

Highlights:

  • Employer vs. Worker fraud in the workers' compensation scheme

  • Powers of the WSIB to investigate and prosecute offenders

  • Options for employers if they suspect worker fraud

Healthcare Benefits Fraud and Abuse:

What You Should Know To Better Protect Your Organization, Your Employees and Plan Members

In Ontario alone, Life and Health insurance companies administer over 51,000 group health plans that provide supplementary health benefits to over 10.4 million Ontarians.  According to the Canadian Life & Health Insurance Association, this represents an astounding $2 Billion annually in health claims or roughly $38 million a week. Approximately 60 to 70% of health claims are sold as Administration Services Only plans.

In other words, the claims are paid for directly by employers or shared between employers and employee.  The rest are sold as insured plans where the insurer takes the risk and pays claims directly. Notwithstanding this type of plan, some accounting firms suggest 3 to 5% of every dollar paid is lost to health care benefits fraud.

What as an employer could you do with the money saved if fraud was eliminated?  This session will speak briefly about health benefits fraud, recent trends and what can you do to mitigate losses due to fraud.
